{"id":19753,"date":"2019-10-06T08:00:39","date_gmt":"2019-10-06T13:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/blog\/2019\/10\/06\/mindo-ecuador\/"},"modified":"2021-07-21T15:42:08","modified_gmt":"2021-07-21T20:42:08","slug":"mindo-ecuador","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wanderbusecuador.com\/es\/mindo-ecuador\/","title":{"rendered":"Mindo Ecuador: Reasons to love this town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If anyone asks me to describe Mindo Ecuador in just one word, I\u2019d say biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At first sight, this magical little town may not seem to offer much adrenaline to travelers but it\u2019s \u201cthe dreamed place\u201d for nature and adventure lovers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19777 size-full\" title=\"Where is Mindo?\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/rio.jpg\" alt=\"Mindo Ecuador\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" \/><\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Where is Mindo?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Located in a valley northwest of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/go.wanderbusecuador.com\/free-walking-tour-in-quito\/?ts=1533017508138\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Quito<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Mindo Ecuador is hidden inside the lush vegetation of the Mindo-Nambillo cloud forest in the Andean foothills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can easily get to Mindo from Quito in less than 2 hours, just take the route 28 and enjoy the views of some little Andean villages on the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Why you should visit Mindo, Ecuador?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From adrenaline and adventure to delicious food and relaxation, in combination with astonishing nature views, Mindo Ecuador has it all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And not only that, besides the more than 500 species of birds (there is no other place in Ecuador where you can spot as many birds as here), Mindo homes a vast variety of beautiful orchids and butterflies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Still not enough to convince you to pay a visit to this mystic valley surrounded by misty mountains?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Well, chocolate factories are definitely going to beat that, \u2018cause who in his\/her right mind doesn\u2019t love chocolate? (Try the Cacao BBQ sauce from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yumboschocolate.com\/who-are-we\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yumbo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, my number one purchase when I visit Mindo).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But also, to be fair, Mindo might not be the perfect location if what you are looking for is a vivid nightlife place, although there are some good restaurants in the area with a very cozy atmosphere and live music.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19779 size-full\" title=\"Top things to do in Mindo, Ecuador\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/tucan-mindo.jpg\" alt=\"Top things to do in Mindo, Ecuador\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" \/><\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><b>T<\/b><b>op things to do in Mindo, Ecuador<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is an endless list, but here are my top 10 activities to do in Mindo Ecuador, so take note.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>WARM-UP!<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Sanctuary of Waterfalls:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> There are about 15 waterfalls in this area, but only 7 of them are marked in the tourist map handed to the visitors at the entrance of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tarabita<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (cable car). <\/span><\/b><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This trek begins with a 3.6 km. (2.23 miles) walk from Mindo downtown to the <em>tarabita<\/em>, from where you can enjoy the evergreen landscape 150 mt. (0.09 miles) above ground &#8211;\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">speechless!<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The trails ahead are going to take you to all the waterfalls throughout a 2-hour trek. Make sure you get to the Reina Waterfall at the end of this journey and also don\u2019t forget to bring your swimsuit to take a dip into these waters.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>GO EXTREME!<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Tubbing:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Hold on tight! <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This challenging experience feels like rafting without paddles on a bunch of tubes tied together. So just keep calm and\u2026 enjoy 40 minutes of pure adrenaline on these semi rapids waters.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Ziplining:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Would you dare to enjoy the cloud forest views upside down? If the answer is YES, go and check the two zipline tours in Mindo: <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mindocanopy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mindo Canopy Adventures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (the pioneers in this activity), and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mindoziplines.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mindo Ziplines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Both options are handled by pro zipliners to assure your safety during the whole flight over 3,500 mt high (2.175 mi).<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Still seeking a bigger rush of adrenaline?<\/span><\/i><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Canyoning:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> There isn\u2019t a better way to test your bravery than experiencing a\u00a0 mixture of hiking, crossing bridges made of ropes, and rappelling down slippery waterfalls. You can find some options (from 12 mt to 40 mt descents) in the tour agencies in town. Just make sure to wear proper clothes and shoes, and get ready to soak yourself in water and fun.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Mountain Biking:<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> This for sure is the fastest and most fun way to move around town and its surrounding attractions. The bike rental agencies in Mindo Ecuador will provide you a map with the biking routes and their levels of difficulty to help you decide the best cycling route. Mindo is well- known for the humongous amount of birds living in this part of the cloud forest, from toucans and parrots to the famous cock-of-the-rock or <i>Gallo de la pe\u00f1a<\/i>. The best time to observe these beauties is early in the morning &#8211; their favorite time of the day to perform their courting rituals to gain female attention. You can go birdwatching either on a booked tour or by yourself (if you know some basics and have the necessary equipment to do so).<\/li>\n<li><b>The Butterflies farm: <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mariposario de Mindo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, located only two blocks away from the Central Plaza, contains more than a thousand butterflies from different species. But this place also has several kinds of orchids where the butterflies like to flutter over &#8211; besides your head, of course &#8211; Don\u2019t miss the chance to learn a bit about these beauties\u2019 metamorphosis process, and also, don\u2019t forget to bring your camera!<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdingmindo.com\/en\/orquideas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Armonia Orchid Garden:<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> No doubt Mindo is the \u201cpromised land\u201d for orchid lovers.
