But what you might not plan for are those evenings between excursions when all you want to do is have a beer, listen to live music and people watch &#8211; just as you would at home.<\/span><b> In the following blog,\u00a0we\u2019ll cover some of the best bars in Quito and other nightlife spots worth visiting.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19970 size-full\" title=\"Best bars in Quito\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/best-bars-in-quito-1.jpg\" alt=\"Best bars in Quito\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" \/><\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Top bars with live music<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The live music scene in Quito can\u2019t compete with that of larger Latin America cities, like Bogot\u00e1 or Mexico City, but there\u2019s still a lot to be seen and heard if you know where to go. We don\u2019t have Yelp! or an online events directory (free business idea, you\u2019re welcome), so the best way to hear about cool live music events is through Facebook and by reading blogs like this one!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once you find a venue\u2019s Facebook page, I suggest looking at their upcoming Events section.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sirkaquito\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sirka<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; Located in the neighborhood of San Marcos in Quito\u2019s Old Town, Sirka is a restaurant and bar that hosts regular live music events. At Sirka you\u2019ll get to see several local bands, which is always cool. Cover usually costs around $8.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/anankelapizzeriadeguapulogonzalez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anank\u00e9<\/a> &#8211; Anank\u00e9 has two locations, one in Gonz\u00e1lez Su\u00f1arez and one in Gu\u00e1pulo. The one in Guapulo is by far my favorite because of the incredible views, but both venues organize live music events, just check their Facebook page.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/DemocraQuito\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caf\u00e9 Democr\u00e1tico <\/a>&#8211; Though Caf\u00e9 Democr\u00e1tico might also fall under the nightlife category, it\u2019s a great place to hear live music (and dance!). Some of the best salsa bands play here quite regularly, and the vibe is fun &#8211; make sure to check it out.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/laoficinaquito\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">La Oficina<\/a> &#8211; Another great venue for live concerts and parties in la Oficina, in the neighborhood of San Blas in Old Town. They host live shows pretty much every weekend, not to mention regular jazz and blues nights.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Bandidobrewing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bandidos Brewery<\/a> &#8211; In addition to great beer, Bandidos organizes live music nights and even have regular bluegrass nights at some point. They have two locations, one in the Old Town near la Mar\u00edn and another in the more posh neighborhood on Whymper Street.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19972 size-full\" title=\"Top bars with live music\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/nightlife-in-quito-1.jpg\" alt=\"Best bars in Quito\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" \/><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Where to go for a cocktail in Quito?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you\u2019re looking for some pre-party action or just a classy place to get a cocktail, check out some of the following bars. Generally speaking, you\u2019ll find good options in the Mariscal area and along Andaluc\u00eda street in La Floresta. Isabel La Cat\u00f3lica is another street with many classy restaurants and bars, as well as the area around the street Rep\u00fablica el Salvador.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ZincQuito\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Zinc Gastro Bar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; Located in la Floresta, this Gastro Bar is the perfect spot if you\u2019re itching to dress up and feel classy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/XPqtsqRQpPJB8haK8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19976 size-full\" title=\"Nightlife in Quito\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/where-to-go-for-a-cocktail-in-quito_.jpg\" alt=\"Best bars in Quito\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/XPqtsqRQpPJB8haK8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Isabella<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; Isabella is a sleek bar on the street called Isabela la Cat\u00f3lica. It\u2019s where many Quite\u00f1os go for a few cocktails before hitting the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dance club. Also called a music bar, Isabella has a regular DJ and live music events throughout the month.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.surparrillagourmet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sur<\/a> &#8211; An elegant spot for cocktails and gourmet cuisine, Sur is a good option if you seek to impress that special someone. As in the movies, bartenders skillfully handle the bottles as they prepare your drink.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grupopims.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pim\u2019s<\/a> &#8211; There are two Pim\u2019s in Quito, one on Isabela la Cat\u00f3lica Street and another up by the Panecillo, boasting an impressive view of the city. Both are really nice and both are pricey \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nightlife in Quito<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ecuadorians like to party, and that\u2019s an understatement. As with live music events, good parties in Quito aren\u2019t always easy to come by &#8211; you have to know where to look.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If doing research isn\u2019t your thing, you can always head over to the La Mariscal neighborhood from Thursday to Saturday night. La Mariscal is the party zone in town but, over the years, has gotten a bit dodgy, so always be mindful of your drink and try to avoid walking down dark, abandoned looking roads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Below are a few party venues to consider:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chiva<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8211; If you want a real Ecuadorian nightlife experience, hop on a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">chiva<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which is essentially a party bus, but Ecuadorian style. Once on the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">chiva,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> you\u2019ll be served <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">canelazos (<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a warm, Andean alcoholic beverage). This is a party and cultural experience all in one!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/espaciolaideal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">La Ideal <\/a>&#8211; An alternative party scene located between 12 de Octubre and 6 de Diciembre, la Ideal regularly brings in some cool shows and parties. Definitely check them out while you\u2019re in Quito.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/X3CtCDeUi5F3J2Nm6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lion<\/a> &#8211; This is quite the happening spot for young Quite\u00f1os and would be classified as more mainstream than the previous venue.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Bungalow6\/?ref=br_rs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bungalow<\/a> &#8211; Bungalow is the equivalent of a frat party, and that\u2019s not necessarily a bad thing! If you\u2019re with a group of friends, it\u2019s a fun spot to get cheap drinks and dance, but it gets a bit rowdy and isn\u2019t everyone\u2019s cup of tea.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salsotecalavoe.com\/?lightbox=dataItem-jn2caepv1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lavoe<\/a> &#8211; If you have some salsa moves, or just want to see the salsa scene, head over to Lavoe, Quito\u2019s largest salsoteca. Cover costs about $10, but you can get in free if you arrive before 10 pm. This is also a good spot to see live salsa bands, though you should definitely check the venue\u2019s Facebook Events page first.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/eluteroespaciosociocultural\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">El \u00datero<\/a> &#8211; El Utero describes itself as a sociocultural space within Quito. This means you\u2019ll find different kinds of events there, including a good party every once in a while.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19974 size-full\" title=\"Where to go for a cocktail in Quito?\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/top-bars-with-live-music.jpg\" alt=\"Best bars in Quito\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" \/><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wanderbus Ecuador<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Though not a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">chiva <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(party bus), you\u2019ll probably have a lot of fun traveling with the Wanderbus. You\u2019ll meet many like-minded travelers and befriend them along the way, unless you\u2019re antisocial (like me), which is okay too. I will mention that making friends while traveling can be useful when you\u2019re headed to destinations with a cool party scene or group activities (Ba\u00f1os river rafting or Monta\u00f1ita beach parties).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Apart from fun times, the Wanderbus relies on the hop-on hop-off model, making it a flexible and convenient way to explore the country by bus.
