Our vehicles stop through Cotopaxi on a regular basis and you can simply hop onto the next Wanderbus to continue your journey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you want the versatility to explore independently, your best bet might be to rent a car. This way you can plan a day trip, returning to Quito for the night. Do keep in mind that driving in Ecuador, especially around Quito, can be stressful!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Finally, if you end up organizing a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/plan-your-cotopaxi-mountain-biking-trip-in-ecuador\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mountain biking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or day tour with an agency in Quito, they will likely organize transport for you. Most tours leave early in the morning from the Capital and return around 7 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Pack appropriately<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It can be tricky to pack for Ecuador. There are so many different climates and regions; the layers you pack for the Andes might just be dead weight when you\u2019re in the Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For your tour to Cotopaxi, you\u2019ll definitely need to consider the cold and wind. Some hostels will have containers to refill your bottles as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Snacks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 As with water, you won\u2019t find many places to refill on snacks while in Cotopaxi National Park. Make sure you bring a stash of granola bars, cookies, and nuts. Also, by leaving early from Quito, you can avoid traffic (during the weekday, rush hour is between 7-9am and 4:30-8pm).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Reserve in advance<\/b> &#8211; This is especially important if it\u2019s high season while you\u2019re traveling. If you plan to stay at a hostel in the area, or if you\u2019re planning to take your party out for a horseback ride, make sure you call in advance to inform them you\u2019re coming. You might not need to make a deposit, but you\u2019re less likely to run into issues once you arrive at your destination or activity.<\/li>\n<li><b>Hire a guide<\/b> &#8211; While most activities in Cotopaxi can be done without a guide, hiring one gives you access to more information about the history, culture, flora and fauna of the region. Local guides tend to know the most interesting facts and the best spots in the park, not to mention they have a good eye for spotting birds, including the elusive Andean Condor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you\u2019re planning to summit Cotopaxi, or other tall peaks in the area like Rumi\u00f1ahui, but you don\u2019t know the trails, it\u2019s recommended to take a guide, if only for safety.
