Adem\u00e1s de la mayor\u00eda de la poblaci\u00f3n mestiza, existen poblaciones ind\u00edgenas distribuidas por todo el territorio. De hecho, hay 14 pueblos ind\u00edgenas diferentes en Ecuador. Entre ellos se encuentran los: Kichwa, Ts\u00e1chila, Shuar, Cof\u00e1n, Siona, Waorani, Chachi, Epera, Secoya, Awa, Achuar, Shiwiar, Z\u00e1para, Andoa y los afroecuatorianos.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\">Aunque el espa\u00f1ol es el idioma oficial en Ecuador, no es la lengua materna de la mayor\u00eda de los ind\u00edgenas. Entre las poblaciones nativas encontrar\u00e1s idiomas como el wao, kichwa y shuar, que predominan en la regi\u00f3n amaz\u00f3nica, y diferentes dialectos del quechua que se encuentran en la sierra ecuatoriana.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">Con idiomas e historias diferentes, vienen tradiciones distintas. Debido a la influencia de los colonizadores espa\u00f1oles, las tradiciones cristianas predominan en Ecuador. Si bien no se puede negar que estas se han convertido en parte de nuestras costumbres, especialmente en las festividades, es importante se\u00f1alar que existen muchas otras tradiciones entre los grupos ind\u00edgenas. De hecho, encontrar\u00e1s expresiones de sincretismo (la fusi\u00f3n entre diferentes culturas y creencias), donde las tradiciones cristianas se han combinado con pr\u00e1cticas ind\u00edgenas tradicionales.<\/p>\n<h2>10 tradiciones festivas para adoptar en Ecuador<\/h2>\n<p>Aqu\u00ed tienes algunas de las tradiciones festivas m\u00e1s populares de Ecuador, algunas de las cuales podr\u00edas experimentar t\u00fa mismo, dependiendo de cu\u00e1ndo nos visites.<\/p>\n<h3>Inti Raymi<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">Inti Raymi es una palabra kichwa que se traduce como <b data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"53\">\u00abFiesta del Sol\u00bb<\/b>. Se celebra en los Andes para honrar al dios del sol inca, Inti. Ocurre el <b data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"145\">21 de junio<\/b> de cada a\u00f1o, coincidiendo con el solsticio anual, cuando el sol parece alcanzar su punto m\u00e1s alto.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">El Inti Raymi es un festival directamente relacionado con el final de la temporada de cosecha y, hasta el d\u00eda de hoy, es reconocido en todo el pa\u00eds. Durante las festividades, se comparten cultivos como ma\u00edz, frijoles y papas, y se distribuye una bebida tradicional a base de ma\u00edz llamada <b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"288\">chicha<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">Adem\u00e1s de celebrar al dios sol, muchas personas tambi\u00e9n rinden homenaje y agradecen a la Madre Tierra, llamada <b data-path-to-node=\"5\" data-index-in-node=\"111\">Pachamama<\/b> en kichwa. Si tienes la oportunidad de asistir a una celebraci\u00f3n del Inti Raymi, \u00a1ve! Suele ser muy animada, estar bellamente decorada y es probable que comas mucha comida deliciosa, recordando la abundancia de la Tierra y nuestro papel en su protecci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h3>D\u00eda de los Difuntos<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">Aunque el D\u00eda de los Muertos se asocia usualmente con las calaveras mexicanas, tambi\u00e9n es una tradici\u00f3n festiva en Ecuador que tiene lugar durante los primeros d\u00edas de <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"168\">noviembre<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">Existe la creencia de que, en este d\u00eda, las almas de los que han fallecido regresan al mundo de los vivos para visitar a sus familiares. Mientras que para muchos esto implica simplemente una visita a la tumba de un ser querido, muchas familias celebran este d\u00eda preparando comida deliciosa en honor al difunto para que pueda continuar su camino en el mundo de los esp\u00edritus.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Encontrar\u00e1s a muchas personas preparando <b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"41\">Colada Morada<\/b>, una bebida tradicional hecha de harina de ma\u00edz negro, canela y frutos rojos (\u00a1entre muchos otros ingredientes!).<\/p>\n<h3>Corpus Christi<\/h3>\n<div _ngcontent-ng-c3352070514=\"\" class=\"container\"><message-content _ngcontent-ng-c3352070514=\"\" _nghost-ng-c2995910413=\"\" id=\"message-content-id-r_55fddb4a0d2568f4\" class=\"ng-star-inserted\"><div _ngcontent-ng-c2995910413=\"\" inline-copy-host=\"\" class=\"markdown markdown-main-panel stronger enable-updated-hr-color\" id=\"model-response-message-contentr_55fddb4a0d2568f4\" aria-live=\"polite\" aria-busy=\"false\" dir=\"ltr\" style=\"--animation-duration: 400ms; --fade-animation-function: linear;\"><p data-path-to-node=\"11\">Esta tradici\u00f3n festiva se lleva a cabo principalmente en los Andes, y las festividades en <b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"90\">Cuenca<\/b> han ganado reconocimiento nacional. Es una tradici\u00f3n cat\u00f3lica introducida por los espa\u00f1oles y se realiza 60 d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de la resurrecci\u00f3n de Cristo. Sin embargo, al igual que otras tradiciones en Ecuador, est\u00e1 mezclada con creencias ind\u00edgenas; los d\u00edas cercanos al Corpus Christi son tambi\u00e9n una oportunidad para agradecer a la <b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"427\">Pachamama<\/b> (Madre Tierra) y al <b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"457\">Inti<\/b> (Dios Sol), de forma similar al festival Inti Raymi.<\/p><p data-path-to-node=\"12\">Durante el Corpus Christi, y especialmente en Cuenca, podr\u00e1s probar muchos dulces y postres nacionales diferentes. Esta tradici\u00f3n se origin\u00f3 en los conventos y, m\u00e1s tarde, la poblaci\u00f3n general tambi\u00e9n comenz\u00f3 a practicarla. Adem\u00e1s de la comida, ver\u00e1s muchas danzas folcl\u00f3ricas, m\u00fasica y fuegos artificiales. It takes place in the second week of April and throughout that week, parades and festivities are planned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One thing you definitely can\u2019t miss during Semana Santa is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fanesca<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a traditional dish only prepared during this time of the year. It\u2019s made up of 12 different ingredients that supposedly represent the 12 apostles, including peas, habas, peanuts, corn, squash, and melloco. Every recipe is different, but keep in mind that this is a heavy meal and may cause indigestion (that\u2019s putting it nicely) to some!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the most popular parades during Semana Santa is called la Procesi\u00f3n de Jes\u00fas del Gran Poder which involves an entire procession of people in purple KKK-looking cloaks recreating the journey that Jesus Christ took to the cross. It\u2019s spooky, to say the least (but also holy to many)!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>La Diablada de P\u00edllaro<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This translates loosely to the Devil\u2019s Party of P\u00edllaro. I know what you\u2019re thinking, and I\u2019m not sure what to tell you. Actually, there\u2019s a cool story behind this one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The celebration takes place in a town called P\u00edllaro in the north of the Tungurahua province (also the province where Ba\u00f1os is located). It takes place between the 1st and 6th of January and consists of many people dressed up as the devil and other characters. There\u2019s a lot of drinking, dancing, and music!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The origins of this festival date back to colonial times and represent the indigenous and mestizo rebellion against Catholicism, which was introduced by Spanish colonizers.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re looking to experience some good old colorful madness, head to the Diablada de P\u00edllaro.<\/span><br><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21266\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wanderbusecuador.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/ar-pc-andes-bolivar-guaranda-tradiciones-carnaval-000-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Carnaval in Ecuador\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carnaval<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carnaval is a completely non-religious event celebrated across Latin America, and a great excuse to party before Holy Week. It takes place between February and March, though dates tend to vary.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Carnaval, you\u2019ll get to experience parades and events, displaying colorful costumes and lively music. The town of Guaranda (4 hours from Quito) is particularly festive during this holiday and draws visitors nationwide for a long weekend of eating, drinking and dancing.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Carnaval, expect to be doused with water, foam and flour, and likely offered a lot of aguardiente (local alcohol made from sugarcane and flavored with aniseed). If you\u2019re worried about your camara gar getting damaged, don\u2019t bring it along!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Year bonfire and burning of the past year \u201cel A\u00f1o Viejo\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Year is fun almost anywhere in the world. In Ecuador, there are some entertaining traditions you\u2019ll surely appreciate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First of all, bonfires are made on almost every corner and are usually placed in the middle of the road. (Keep this in mind if you plan on traveling or moving around a city.) Neighbors and families gather and take turns jumping over the bonfire while drinking and eating.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to the party, families make el A\u00f1o Viejo, which translates to the old year, but literally takes the form of a scarecrow-like figure stuffed with hay and dressed to look like a man (or whatever character you want to portray). The A\u00f1o Viejo represents the things we each will leave behind with the past year. Around midnight, the A\u00f1o Viejo is tossed into the bonfire!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another fascinating tradition involves men dressing up as widows, blocking streets and asking for money to each passer-by. This tradition has various explanations. One is that it originated after an epidemic of yellow fever, brought by the Spaniards, which decimated populations. Another belief is that it is the widow of the A\u00f1o Viejo that is about to get burned.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before New Year\u2019s, you\u2019ll see many of these scare-crow like dolls along the roads and sold for a few dollars.
